My MAEO STARS Fall Kickoff Experience
By Seth B.
I had a grand time at the MAEO STARS Fall Kickoff, there were so many awesome things that I got to do and be a part of like: the introductory game of Have You Ever, the magic show, the raffle, & voting for the Student Advisory Board, as well as finding out that I was voted onto the advisory board. It was so awesome to be there and I had a wonderful time.
The first thing that I was a part of, and slightly nervous about, but had a great time with, was the introductory game of Have You Ever. The game had started out very small, and had begun with the event leaders assigning us numbers. When everyone had their number, we were told to go into groups with those who had the same number. After that, we had to get chairs and align them in a circle, with one chair missing. Next one person had to get into the circle and ask the question, Have You Ever done blank. When we had gone around the circle a couple times, we were told to add another group to the circle. After a bit of scrambling to get more chairs for the larger circle, we started the game again. There were some hilarious questions, like:
● “Have you ever broken a bone?”
● “Have you ever been late to school?”
● “Have you ever skipped school?” & lastly
● “Have you ever faked being sick to skip school?”
After my initial nervousness, I had an amazing time, meeting new people.
Next up, was the magic show. I had never seen a magician in person up until this point, and it was awesome. At the magic show, Mrs. Alyssia, Mrs. Denise, & I were amazed, and had quiet conversations about how the magician was able to do all these tricks. At the beginning of the show the magician said that he was from a place called Colon, Michigan. He made several jokes about Colon, MI, and they were so funny. What was really awesome, were his tricks:
● He made a short rope long and a long rope short
● He hammered a nail through his nose and removed it without being injured
● He somehow dented a can with his bare hand
Honestly, the Magic show was one of my favorite parts of the Fall Kickoff. Not having seen a magic show before, I was able to see it as it was, an amazing event.
After the Magic Show, was the Raffle. The raffle was set up, so that all in attendance won something, but the order was at random. The prizes were all neat, they ranged from stationary to board games to stuffed animals. I was thrilled when my name was called. The prizes had dwindled quite a bit, but there were still really neat stationary products, of which I have a slight addiction. The prize that I picked was a pack of Halloween themed pens, they had two figures on the top of them, a ghost with a witch hat and a pumpkin with a ghost at the base. They still had more prizes after everyone had been called, so the event leaders asked random questions, and if it applied to you, then you were able to pick another prize. I was surprised when I was able to pick another prize, so I picked a pen with a mushroom on the top. The raffle was a really neat way for me to get new stationary.
The last event was the voting for the Student Advisory Board. I was unprepared for this event because this is my first year in MAEO STARS. It was literally sprung upon me by Mrs Denise and Mrs. Alyssia. Those who participated in the election for the Student Advisory Board, including me, had to give a speech on as to why we should be in the Student Advisory Board. I literally said in my speech that this was all new to me, and that I had just come up with my speech right then and there. I was very surprised, when about three days after the Kickoff, that I was elected onto the Student Advisory Board. Even though I was unprepared, I had a lot of fun in this last event.

During the Fall Kickoff for MAEO Stars, I had a blast at the kickoff. I had a good time, and I got to meet a lot of new people. I also found how many Alternative Educational Academies there are in the state of Michigan! Chloe K. Alternative Educational Academy of Ogemaw.
